The New York Rangers’ Mats Zuccarello and Henrik Lundqvist are teaming up for the 2018 Henke and Zucca Summer Classic, an outdoor charity game to be held this Saturday at Ulleval Stadium in Oslo, Norway. The event, expected to fill the 23,000 seat stadium, will raise money for the Lundqvist Foundation, the Zuccarello Foundation and Right to Play, which aims to assist children and young people in challenging situations around the world.
After four years of hosting the “Zuccarello All–Star Game” in Stavanger (more on last year’s event is here.), the event is now moving to Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium. For the first time, Oslo’s largest stadium and home to Norway’s National Football Team, will be transformed in to an outdoor hockey rink in the middle of summer. The Summer Classic will be Norway’s largest sporting charity event.
Captains’ Zuccarello and Lundqvist held a selection draft Friday evening to form the teams for Saturday’s game. More than 30 NHL Players including Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, Derek Brassard, Carl Hegelin, Antti Raanta, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Victor Hedman, Ryan McDonagh, William Nylander, Zdeno Chara, Loui Eriksson, John Klingberg, Hampus Lindholm, Nino Niederreiter, Alexander Wennberg, William Karlsson, Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg are all scheduled to play in the game.
The Capitals’ Nicklas Backstrom was slated to participate, but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts associated with his day with the Stanley Cup, also occurring this weekend.
