Capitals’ Assistant GM Ross Mahoney, Assistant Athletic Trainer Mike Booi, Have Their Days with the Stanley Cup

After spending the week in Minnesota with Matt Niskanen, Jason Serbus and T.J. Oshie, and Thursday in Indiana with head coach Todd Reirden, the Cup traveled north to Lake Odessa, Michigan, for a day with Capitals assistant athletic trainer Mike Booi on Friday, and visited Capitals general manager Ross Mahoney on Sunday in Regina, Saskatchewan. Ross Mahoney, Assistant General Manager
Sunday July 29 was the day designated for Washington Capitals Assistant General Manager, Ross Mahoney, to spend with the Stanley Cup. Mahoney’s day took place in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Mahoney first brought the Cup to the downtown YMCA, where it was set up in the Men’s Plus Member room.

Mahoney also brought the Cup to the Royal Regina Golf Club.

Washington Capitals Assistant GM Ross Mahoney and Scout Darrell Baumgartner (above) visited the Royal Regina Golf Club. Mahoney and Baumgartner are both Regina-based members of the Stanley Cup-winning Washington Capitals’ organization.

Baumgartner has just completed his third season as a full-time scout. In that capacity, Baumgartner’s work is overseen by Mahoney, who has been the Capitals’ assistant general manager for four years. He spent the previous 17 seasons as the NHL team’s director of amateur scouting.

As the Capitals’ western scout, Baumgartner championed future Capitals Cup winners such as center Chandler Stephenson (formerly of the Regina Pats) and Braden Holtby (Saskatoon Blades).

Baumgartner told the Leader-Post back in June, “I’m still in a little bit of disbelief, It’s surreal after being with the organization for 10 years. I’ve gone through some trials and tribulations and I know the players have gone through even more. It’s so fantastic for everyone in the organization — from the off-ice staff to the coaches to the players — and it’s just a thrill to see them succeed.”

While there, he posed with members of that club, including Aaron Burnett who sells luxury mens wear.
