The Summer Classic 2018 is a charity game created by the New York Rangers players Henrik Lundqvist, Sweden, and Mats Zuccarello, Norway. The game will take place at UllevaalStadium, which is a soccer stadium, on the 11th of August in Oslo, Norway.
[UPDATE: Thursday, July 26th] Nicklas Backstrom will no longer be participating in the Summer Classic due to “Day With The Cup” commitments with Christian Djoos, also to be held on the same day.
For the first time, Oslo’s largest stadium will be transformed in to an outdoor hockey rink in the middle of summer. With enough room to accommodate 23,000 spectators, Summer Classic will be Norway’s largest sporting charity event.
There will be a pre-game showdown between Swedish and Norwegian sports and entertainment celebrities. This to once and for all settle which country truly rules the ice.
Both Henke and Zucca are recruiting hockey players for their own team and Nicklas Backstrom will be a player for Zucca´steam, according to the events website.
These are a couple of other NHL stars that are going to participate in this charity game.
Team Zucca: Filip Forsberg, Carl Haglin, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Victor Hedman etc.
Team Henke: William Nylander, Johan Klingberg, HampusLindholm, William Karlsson etc, as well as the NHL alumni, Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin.
