Washington Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan rode to the scene on a fire truck on Saturday, to bring the Stanley Cup to Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event was held with several youth hockey groups from the city, as part of a Herb Brooks Foundation event. The organization is named for the former NHL coach and native of neighboring St. Paul who died in 2003.
“It’s a fun day, a fun day to see people react to the Cup,” MacLellan told FOX 9 TV. “You know, it brings a lot of smiles to people’s faces, people that sometimes don’t get a chance to get close to it are getting an opportunity and it’s fun to watch them enjoy it.”
The appearance was part of Maclellan’s day with the Stanley Cup. Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen will have his day with the Stanley Cup on Sunday. (Updated schedule for Capitals players day with the Stanley Cup is here.)

About 400 hockey fans saw the Cup and had their picture taken with the greatest trophy in all of sports. Riding along with MacLellan were the son of Herb Brooks, Dan Brooks, who brought Herb’s 1980 Gold Medal for all the players to see.
