NHL Tonight will telecast a special called “NHL Tonight: Capital Gains,” commemorating the first Stanley Cup in the history of the Washington Capitals tonight at 7 PM on NHL Network.

When you end your season like this, you deserve an hour long show dedicated to your team.

NHL Network did a similar show last week that was dedicated to the Vegas Golden Knights historic inaugural season. During the show, they had phone calls with players, head coach Gerald Gallant, and general manager George McPhee, along with other segments about an individual player and the accomplishments they achieved in their run to the Stanley Cup Final. Though no details have been released about the Capitals’ special tonight, expect it to be similar to the one about the Golden Knights.

The Capitals won their first Stanley Cup Championship in 2017-18 after never getting past the second round the past 20 years, including 2016 and 2017 when they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who went on to win the Stanley Cup both times. They finally broke through, beating the Penguins in six games this past season en route to the Cup victory.

After losing some big names in the offseason, the Capitals got off to a start of 11-10-1 but went 17-4-2 in their next 23 games and ended the regular season on a 12-3-0 run. They never looked back going 16-8 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Captain Alex Ovechkin, who led the NHL with 49 goals this season, won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after leading the playoffs with 15 goals and center Evgeny Kuznetsov led the postseason in scoring with 30 points.
