It’s been quite a week for the Capitals. Usually the offseason is quiet, but we won the Stanley Cup four weeks ago, and things have not quieted down since! In the previous editions of NoVa CAPtures, Capitals fans showed their excitement in the heart of DC and all over the world, as the boys in Red made one last appearance as a team before parting ways for the summer. And this appearance came as a parade fit for champions!

We loved all your Stanley Cup Championship posts, so thank you very much! However, since the parade, there’s been a lot of down to business goings on in the Washington Capitals organization. We’ve had the 2018 NHL Entry Draft in Dallas, Texas, where we drafted seven new players to the team, and we’ve re-signed defensemen John Carlson and Michal Kempny and forward Devante Smith-Pelly before free agency even began!

We’ve also seen new Head Coaches appointed both in Washington and Hershey since Barry Trotz has been hired by the New York Islanders.

Wow. Did you catch all of that? Did you click all those links? Holy Off Season Activity, Batman! But with the team having a busy summer, that means there’s plenty for the fans to react to! So, what’s been going on in the lives of the fans since 2018 Draft? Let’s take a look at some submission and see!

oshiefalls

Here we see one fan, clad in a T.J. Oshie shirt that does the number on top and the name going sideways down the back. This fan is enjoying the sights of Niagara Falls, much closer to the home of the Buffalo Sabres than the Washington Capitals. But Caps fans are everywhere! Look at that rainbow, it’s so bright, you can clearly see it through the lens of a smartphone camera! Breath taking! Are there any other Caps fans traveling around this week?

MacchuPicchu

I GUESS THERE ARE! This fan, rocking the Red (either and Oshie, Holtby, or Carlson jersey), is visiting Machu Picchu, the 15th century Inca citadel. Now, I love the Capitals as much as anybody else. But I question why one would wake up in the morning, know they’re going to an ancient civilization nearly 8,000 ft above sea level, and think “I’m gonna wear my jersey today”! Not a bad decision, I just don’t think it would be my first choice for clothing. Again, we have Caps fans all around the world. Take a look passed this young man and you’ll see awe-inspiring craftsmanship from people who has next to no resources at their disposal perched atop a beautiful mountain peak! Caps fans sure do know how to pick a vacation spot!

ZooHat

I repeatedly told myself while I was going through your submissions, “Chris, no more Championship hats! Ther’re so many, the readers are going to get bored with them” And then I found this one, and I can throw all the promises I made to myself out the window. Here, we see a Stanley Cup hate making a visit to what I assume is a zoo. And look at this guy, standing there by his little pool, minding his own business. What a jerk! That’s right, you look the other way, penguin; pretend you have nooo idea what’s going on behind you. We know who you’re working for. You tell your Captain we’ll be seeing him on October 4th, and not a minute sooner! Now away with you! We champions have celebrating to do. We’ll deal with your kind in the fall.

And now, lady reds and gentlecaps, it’s time for the moment you’ve all been waiting for! For the first time ever, NoVa Caps is proud to present Washington Capitals fans with the Stanley Cup! The team had their annual fan fest last week , and along with it, came a photo opportunity with Lord Stanley himself for those fans dedicated and brave enough to endure the sweltering DC heat. This is your moment, Caps fans! Our first Stanley Cup win means our first chance to pose the holiest of grails! Let’s take a look now, and see the bright smiles and glowing eyes of Caps fans as they welcome Lord Stanley to The District!

Cup1

Look at those smiles! Look at that passion! Look at the lethargy in their eyes! The heat took its toll on many people who waited in line for their chance to see the Cup in person, and boy did it ever pay off for these two folks to suffer through the heat! You’d think they’d fill the Cup with water and offer for everyone to do an Ovi-esque Cup-stand out of it to stay hydrated after such a long wait.

Cup3

Well, it may not have been filled with water, but it was filled a baby at (at least) one point throughout the day!  Look at this beautiful family celebrating Lord Stanley’s presence. The youngsters may not yet fully understand his importance, but Lord Stanley makes mom and dad here smile like the dickens, and that makes the kiddos smile away too! All except for the little girl in the Cup, anyway. She looks like she might be ready to appreciate the Cup from ground level.

Cup2

Sidenote for all you readers out there, I love these alternate jerseys. There’s no wrong way to present them. Wearing them, having them framed, they look beautiful anyway you can imagine. They might be my second favorite jersey in Caps’ history, being beaten out only by the beautiful 2015 Winter Classic sweaters. And this is your assignment for next week, readers! Send us your favorite jerseys in action or on display for them to be featured in the next installment of NoVa CAPtures!

This fella here is rocking a big, red beard that matches his jersey and his Caps pride all too well. You may not be able to see his mouth very well but you can tell he is smiling from ear to ear as he embraced the Cup for the first time.

Now THIS GUY has the right idea! You may not be able to drink out of the Cup, but you can sure drink next to it! Nothing beats the heat like a cool bottle of water or two and photo with Lord Stanley! Look at the excitement, look at the energy! If Lord Stanley had a face, it would be beaming with as much pride as this guy’s is! This truly is a wonderful time to be a Washington Capitals fan!

And that concludes this week’s installment of NoVa CAPtures. Thank you all for your submissions, and as always, keep them coming! We may be in the thick of the offseason, and with most of our re-signings haven been taken care of already, we should be in for an unfortunate quiet few weeks. I know a lot of you are concerned about the fact that trail has gone cold regarding Tom Wilson’s contract status. For those of you looking for more information on the resident rough houser’s status, check out this article my colleague wrote earlier this week, and please don’t hit the panic button just yet! As always, stay tuned to NoVa Caps for the latest Washington Capitals news.
