Nicklas Backstrom’s “Day With the Cup” Will Include Visit To NickBack Arena

Sweden’s Valbo HC has confirmed that Capitals star centerman Nicklas Backstrom’s “Day with the Cup” will be on August 12th, and in addition, officially announced that the day will include a visit to Valbo’s NickBack Arena.

Valbo HC plays all of their home games at NickBack Arena, which is named after Backstrom, who assumed arena sponsorship on August 28th, 2011. NickBack Arena is the site of the annual Nicklas Backstrom Cup, held each summer for under 16 hockey players in the Gavle area.

You may recall that Backstrom recently donated his entire earnings from Sweden’s Gold Medal in the World Championships last year to the Valbo HC, his former youth organization. (more on that here).

Backstrom has not officially released any other details regarding additional events for his “Day with the Cup”, but it’s likely the Cup will be making other stops in the Gavle, Sweden area, Backstrom’s hometown.

The date for Backstrom’s visitation with the Cup was somewhat anticipated but unconfirmed until Valbo announced the news on Wednesday. Lars Eller will have his day with the Cup on August 8th in the Copenhagen, Denmark area, and Andre Burakovsky is set to have the Cup the following day, across the bay, in Malmo, Sweden. It is believed that Christian Djoos will have his day in between Burakovsky and Backstrom’s dates with the Cup, on August 10th or 11th, but details have yet to be confirmed.
