Alexander Ovechkin’s day with the Stanley Cup will be on Saturday July 7, 2018.  It will take place in Moscow, Russia, in the World Cup Fan Zone that’s located near the Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) Subway Station.

The Cup will be exhibited between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. where people can take a picture of themselves with the trophy.  After that, he will go to Novogorsk, the home of the Moscow Dynamo Hockey Club, where it will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   That event will be attended by the leadership of Moscow Dynamo, along with veterans of the team, including Ovi’s first coaches.  Ovechkin is expected to meet with the fans and the younger players of Dynamo.  Due to the time limit, the number of guests will be limited, with priority given to fans of Dynamo who had season tickets for the 2017-18 season and attended the maximum number of contests.  The Cup will remain in Moscow for two days.  There is speculation that Dmitry Orlov will appear at Vorobyovy Gory, too.

The other main news on Ovechkin is that he was awarded the Kharlamov Trophy which is annually awarded to the best Russian hockey player, Russian sports journalists, along with legendary Russian players, General Managers, and Head Coaches.  It was the eighth time that Ovechkin has won that trophy.  He had won it five consecutive seasons, from 2005-06 through 2008-09 and then won in 2013-14 and 2014-15 before winning again this year. Our story on the last time Ovechkin won the award his here.

Ovechkin won 35 first place votes and had 137 points overall in the balloting.  Evgeny Kuznetsov finished in second place, with 99 points. Nikita Gusev, of the SKA in Saint Petersburg in the KHL, finished third.

After being awarded the trophy, Ovechkin remarked that it’s the happiest year of his life.  He had won the Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy, the Kharlamov trophy, and the upcoming birth of his child.  (Author’s note: the translation via Google said “son” which may mean that he is having a boy but the translation of the Russian may not be reliable and may simply be referring to “child” rather than “son”.)

Ovechkin has also been watching the World Cup of Soccer, which is being hosted by Russia this year – in Luzhniki.  They were attending the game on July 1 where Russia had upset Spain. There was a picture of him sitting with Evgeny Malkin, Alexander Radulov, and Ilya Kovalchuk.  Fans in attendance needed to bring identification credentials.
