Re-signing top priority and pending free agent defenseman John Carlson, as well as playoff hero Devante Smith-Pelly, Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan has checked off yet another player on his re-signing to-do list. According to a recent report, pending unrestricted free agent blueliner Michal Kempny has signed a multi-year deal with the Capitals.

Per TSN’s Darren Dreger, Kempny has reached a multi-year deal that will keep him in Washington, despite plenty of interest from other teams. The Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan confirmed the report, per a source. With the deal, the Capitals will return all members of their Top 4 defensemen from their Stanley Cup Run

Acquired by the Capitals just before the Trade Deadline, Kempny recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in 22 regular season games played, and followed up his strong regular season performance with a five-point performance in all 24 playoff games the team played. He averaged 17:42 of ice time playing alongside Carlson, and is arguably MacLellan’s best trade deadline acquisition in his four-year tenure.

After decades of ex-Caps fortifying other cities’ Stanley Cup teams, this was our year to raid a team that should have known better (CHI). Caps were Team-turnover before Kempny was acquired, on their way to a failed season and a fired coach. Good News for Caps’ fans
