The hot lap is a tradition the Washington Capitals have done at road morning skates throughout the playoffs. This ritual has become a hit all over social media no matter who it was. The Vegas Golden Knights held a morning skate at Capital One Arena prior to Game 3 of Stanley Cup Finals and have seemed to adopt the tradition themselves.
Golden Knights center Jonathan Marchessault did the honors.

While the hot lap idea looked like it just got stolen, it actually wasn’t the case. The Marchessault used the tradition in the previous round against Winnipeg after watching Alex Ovechkin do it. As for former Capital Nate Schmidt, he actually wasn’t paying attention.
Schmidt: “What hot lap? I wasn’t even watching. I was sitting there talking with Millsy. I didn’t even see it. Was it good? I don’t pay attention to a lot of Marchy’s antics.” 😂

Alex Tuch, who was a victim of “the save” by Braden Holtby, told reporters after the skate that the Washington D.C. residents gave them a warm welcome at team dinner last night.
The Golden Knights went to team dinner last night in Georgetown and got heavily booed.
“Oh, yeah,” Alex Tuch said. “In and out. Mostly on the way out.”
