About midway through the second period of Tuesday night’s Game 3 second round series between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, Tom Wilson was at it again. As center Zach Aston-Reese was heading to center ice along the boards in front of the Capitals bench, he was greeted by Wilson. Wilson laid out a shoulder-to-shoulder contact hit that knocked Aston-Reese out of the game.
In Game 2, Wilson had a hit on defenseman Brian Dumoulin that knocked him out of the game. Dumoulin still played the following night in Game 3 but Aston-Reese didn’t have the same luck. After Game 3, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan revealed to the media that Aston-Reese had suffered a concussion and a broken jaw which is going to require surgery. His season is likely over.
Wilson didn’t receive a hearing after Game 2 or any disciplinary action from the NHL Department of Player Safety and Sullivan had these words to say after this latest hit from Wilson.
“We lose a guy to a broken jaw that’s going to require surgery and a concussion because of another high hit to the head. At some point we would hope the league might do something.”
Wilson will have a hearing for the hit later today.
Washington’s Tom Wilson will have a hearing today for an illegal check to the head on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese.

Wow. Crosby hits men on purpose in the nuts and cuts off someones finger and nothing happens. Sorry the guy got hurt but what a bunch of cry babies. Sounds like the Pats.
Watching a Pens game is just like watching a Patriots game: announcers have Crosby’s…um…Little Crosby…so far down their throats they can’t talk about anything else.
The Crosby Penguins have been one of the great cheap-shot NHL teams of the 21st century … They’re much more mortal when they can’t mug opposing goalies with impunity or slash-and-fracture opposing skaters
