Capitals Sign Juuso Ikonen to a Two-Year, Two-Way Deal

The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday afternoon the signing of prospect forward Juuso Ikonen to a two-year, two-way contract. This deal will be effective beginning in the 2018-19 season and with an average annual value of $925,000. This is their second prospect signing of the day as the team agreed to terms with Axel Jonsson-Fjallby this morning

The Washington Capitals have signed forward Juuso Ikonen to a two-year, two-way contract beginning in the 2018-19 season, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Ikonen’s contract will carry an average annual value of $925,000.

The Espoo, Finland, native recorded 26 points (12g, 14a) in 49 regular season games and five points (3g, 2a) in eight playoff games with Brynäs IF in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) this season. The 5’9″, 172-pound forward also appeared in eight games for Finland in international competition this season and recorded three points (1g, 2a).

Ikonen, 23, finished with 11 points (3g, 8a) in 36 games with Djurgårdens IF and Brynäs IF in the SHL in the 2016-17 season. Additionally, Ikonen recorded 12 points (7g, 5a) in 20 playoff games with Brynäs IF en route to winning the SHL Silver Medal.

Ikonen was a member Finland’s 2014 World Junior Championship team, recording three points (1g, 2a) in Finland’s gold medal effort.

Ikonen’s brother, Joni, was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, 58th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Ikonen is scheduled to attend the 2018 Capitals Training Camp.
