The Washington Capitals are in Columbus, Ohio staring at an 0-2 series hole. Prior to a pivotal Game 3, the team held a morning skate on Tuesday morning at Nationwide Arena. After Philipp Grubauer had a bad Game 1 and a dismal Game 2 during the first two periods, coach Barry Trotz put Braden Holtby in net for the third period. The Capitals were off on Monday but Trotz said in a conference call that he decided who the starting netminder for Game 3 is but didn’t reveal it. We found out the answer this morning.

CAPS LINES

THE STARTING GOALIE IS….

Braden Holtby was manning the starter’s net at the skate. He’s a go for Game 3. During the third period, Holtby stopped all five shots he faced and looked like he had his confidence back. In all, he stopped seven of the eight shots he faced as Matt Calvert rebounded a shot past Holtby to give the Blue Jackets the win.

Over the years, our goalies have never won a series. 3 to the Rangers, 1 to habs, 3 to the pens… I said all year they had to trade 1 G for a D… they never did… same song – outplaying the Jackets yet losing
