Axel Jonsson-Fjallby wasn’t the only Washington Capitals prospect taking part in playoff action this weekend. Saturday night in Everett, Washington, 2016 third round pick Garret Pilon and the Everett Silvertips hosted the Seattle Thunderbirds in Game 2 of the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs. The Thunderbirds ultimately came away with the 5-4 win in overtime to even up the series, but Pilon was the biggest star of the game, as he recorded a hat trick.
Pilon first struck 33 seconds into the second period with a quick snipe right over the shoulder of Seattle goaltender Liam Hughes.

Trailing 4-3 with 44 seconds to go, Pilon came through in the clutch, recording the hat trick goal to force overtime. This time Pilon was on the right side of the net, receiving a pass from Patrick Bajkov. Hughes was able to initially deny Pilon, but on the third try, Pilon put it in for his third goal of the game.

Pilon’s hat trick was the first in the postseason for the Tips since Carson Stadnyk accomplished his on March. 27, 2015 against the Spokane Chiefs.
Pilon now has four goals in just two WHL playoff games played so far. This was Pilon’s third hat trick of the 2017-2018 campaign. During the regular season, Pilon totaled 34 goals and 46 points in 69 games played, including two hat tricks.
The Capitals signed Pilon to a three-year entry level contract in March of 2017.
