Travis Boyd, a forward for the Bears and a father to his daughter Hayden, had one of the most trying weeks a father could experience. After a thrilling overtime win over the Rochester Americans on Sunday night, Boyd came home and found his daughter in severe pain. After a sleepless week in the hospital, Boyd got some time to fly over to Laval, Quebec on Friday night to join his Bears teammates for their game against the Laval Rocket.
With a heavy heart, Boyd had the motive of dedicating this game to his daughter. No better way to do that than scoring a goal! With the Bears already up 1-0 in the first, Boyd struck with 16 seconds left to put Hershey ahead 2-0.
After the Rocket scored almost midway through the second period, Boyd struck again a few minutes later to put Hershey ahead 3-1.
The Rocket scored late in the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the third period at 8:26, Boyd completed the hat trick. This marked the second time Boyd had a hat trick in the AHL.
At 15:39 of the final frame, Boyd added another goal giving him four on the night. Per the Hershey Bears, Boyd is the first Bear to record four goals in a game since Paul Carey did so last March vs. the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Following the 6-3 win, Boyd took to Twitter tweeting a picture of his daughter along with the game pucks saying: “We spent a long, hard, and sleepless week in the hospital caring for Hayden. Beyond thankful for a successful surgery, her amazing mother, all the support and for being able to score 4 goals for our little girl tonight!”

I’m happy as hell for Travis—especially in view of his recent tragedy. But the real reward will come when and if Caps’ brass–particularly Coach Trotz–grants him enough PT to actually DEVELOP…
If they aren’t going to do that then this so-called “reward” will eventually prove to be chaff….at least until he’s traded to a team that believes in his talent enough to reward him with playing time…
