Capitals Prospect Garrett Pilon Continues Scoring Rampage

The Washington Capitals signed forward Garrett Pilon to a three-year, entry-level contract on March 30th, 2017, and it’s becoming pretty clear why the Capitals moved so quickly to sign their third-round draft pick (87th overall) from 2016. Over the past two seasons, Pilon has spent time with the Kamloops Blazers and the Everett Silvertips, scoring a total of 46 goals and 81 assists (127 points) in 119 games. That’s 1.07 points per game.

The 19-year-old native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and son of former NHL’er Rich Pilon, has continued a torrid goal-scoring pace while playing in the Western Hockey League. Pilon scored 20 goals and registered 45 assists in 67 games with the Kamloops Blazers last season.

This season
Garrett Pilon began the 2017-2918 season with the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League. Pilon led Kamloops in scoring as an alternate captain through 39 games this season with 44 points (18g-26a) and was tops on the Blazers in goals (18), assists (26), power play assists (13), power play points (17), shorthanded goals (2), and shots (205).

On January 7, the Everett Silvertips acquired Pilon in a four-player transaction with Kamloops. The change in scenery (and teammates) did nothing to slow Pilon down. Since joining Everett, Pilon, who is currently centering the second line for the Silvertips, Has scored 8 goals and registered 10 assists in just 13 games.

So, if you’re keeping score at home, that’s 26 goals and 36 assists in 52 games this season, including a pair of hat tricks (11/24 for Kamloops versus Medicine Hat and on 1/13 for Everett against Spokane). Not too shabby.

Hershey Calling
Pilon spent the tail-end of the 2016-2017 with a brief stop in Hershey, but didn’t see any game action. Pilon’s offensive skills and scoring capabilities are desperately needed in Hershey, so look for him to be moving his game to the Giant Center next fall.

  1. Kristian Roykas Marthinsen, Axel Jonsson Fjällby and Garrett Pilon, if allowed, may well form the nucleus of a different kind of Capitals club–one that can consistently compete with the best and strongest teams in the NHL…and one that can, if properly nurtured, finally bring us a Stanley Cup even after injuries and age inevitably conspire to slow Alexander Ovechkin down …

Clifford Keefe I like your passion! You and I, we both bleed Caps Red. 42 years of futility is a long time.

    • I hear you! Let’s hope the captains of our ship can somehow steer us to a championship before the snows of old age descend once and for all…

      Have a great weekend!
