Capitals Prospect Damien Riat Re-Signs In Europe, Passes on North America for Two More Years

As per an RTS Sport, Washington Capitals prospect Damien Riat has signed a new contract that will keep him in Europe for at least the next two years. Riat will leave Geneva-Servette at the end of the season.

The right winger has signed a new contract with Biel, currently 3rd in the standings, for the next two years, until 2020.

The news is somewhat disappointing from a Capitals organization point of view, more specifically for Hershey, who are in desperate need of replenishing their forward corp. Riat scored 12 goals and registered 12 assists in 45 games this season with Geneva-Servette. Riat played in a total of 144 games for Geneva-Servette, including playoffs in the LNA / National League, scoring 29 goals and 33 assists.

The 20-year-old Swiss native was a 4th round draft pick (117th overall) by the Washington Capitals in 2017.

  1. Jacob I. says:

This isn’t completely true, as his deal includes an NHL-out clause, meaning Washington still has priority over him. If he is interested in coming over next season and the capitals are determined to bring him over as well, he can do so.
