It’s crazy that this game played out so similar to the Devils’ game of Dec 26, 2009 that I retro-recapped. In that one, Caps got off to 2 goal lead in first period but gave up a goal to Devils relatively late that period. Caps score a goal in second period, just like today. And Caps get goal i third period so score is 4-1 at one point. (That was the final score of that other game.) But this year, both teams got one more goal apiece. Both today and Dec 26, 2009, the Caps were one point out of first place. And both times they leapfrogged the Devils in the standings.
