The Capitals recalled forward Anthony Peluso from the Hershey Bears today after putting forward Tyler Graovac on injured reserve. Peluso was one of the Capitals’ final roster cuts from training camp after signing a one-year contract with the team on July 1.

Peluso, 28, was a 6th round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues but has played all 142 of his NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets, scoring 4 goals and 14 points. He’s also racked up 209 career penalty minutes. Two seasons ago, he had a goal and five points with a +4 rating in 35 games played with the Jets. He piled up 44 of his 209 career penalty minutes in 2015-16. He was also responsible defensively with 3 takeaways, 6 giveaways, 81 hits, and 4 blocked shots. He also averaged 6:20 worth of ice time per game.

This marks the third callup the Capitals have had in the past two weeks. They recalled defenseman Madison Bowey after they placed defenseman Matt Niskanen on long-term injured reserve with an upper-body injury and center Chandler Stephenson after the placed winger Andre Burakovsky on injured reserve after he had thumb surgery this week. Niskanen will not be eligible to return until November 7 when the Capitals visit the Buffalo Sabres and Burakovsky is out until mid to late December. Center Nicklas Backstrom also did not play in the Capitals’ 6-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks last night due to illness.

Brett Connolly also had an injury scare last night following a hit from Canucks’ defenseman Erik Gudbranson. So far this season, Connolly has one goal and an assist with a -5 rating in the Capitals’ first 10 games.

The injuries have forced coach Barry Trotz to shuffle his lines a little bit and expect more of it tomorrow as the Capitals visit Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow at Rogers Place. The game will be televised on NBC Sports Washington at 10 P.M.

After the Capitals finished last in the league with 49 man games lost, the Capitals already have 10 man games lost. The Capitals are 4-5-1 through the team’s first 10 games and will need to get healthy soon or else they are going to fall farther behind in the standings. They are currently one point out of the second wild-card spot which currently belongs to the Philadelphia Flyers. They are also tied with the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Detroit Red Wings, though the Bruins and Hurricanes each hold the tiebreaker because they have both played two fewer games than the Capitals.
