In the wake of an injury to forward Andre Burkovsky in the team’s 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday, and a scare to captain Alex Ovechkin in practice this morning, the Capitals have recalled forward Chandler Stephenson from the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears. In addition, Andre Burakovsky has been placed on injured reserve (IR).
A former third-round pick of the Capitals (77th overall in 2012), Stephenson has played in 13 combined games with the Capitals over the last two seasons (including four last season), recording no points and finishing with a minus-3 rating. Stephenson has played the majority of the last four seasons in the AHL with the Bears, playing in 174 games, scoring 25 goals and adding 56 assists for 81 points, with a plus-10 rating.
In six games played with the Bears this season, Stephenson has scored five goals and has added one assist for six points with a minus-6 rating.
