The Capitals traveled directly to Philadelphia following last night’s impressive 5-2 win over the upstart Devils in New Jersey. The team held morning skate at 11:30 Saturday morning at the Wells Fargo Center.
As noted in an earlier post this morning, Caps star Defenseman Matt Niskanen was placed on Long term injured reserve, as a result of an injury he sustained in last night’s game versus the Devils. Niskanen will be out a minimum of 10 games or 24 days.
As a result of Niskanen’s injury, Madison Bowey was immediately called up from Hershey early this morning and reported directly to Philadelphia to join the team.
Practice:
The morning skate was changed to “optional” late last night, but Madison Bowey did participate.
Also participating in the optional skate were Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, Nathan Walker, Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly, Tyler Graovac, Jakub Vrana, Andre Burakovsky, Christian Djoos, Aaron Ness and Taylor Chorney.
Philipp Grubauer will get the start in goal tonight for the Capitals.
Taylor Chorney, Tyler Graovac and Nathan Walker skated after practice, indicating they will likely be the healthy scratches tonight.
Madison Bowey
Bowey will make his NHL debut for the Caps tonight vs. Flyers. He will be paired with Christian Djoos, his partner last season with Hershey.
From the other side:
The Flyers will start Brian Elliott in goal tonight. Former Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth will be his backup.
