It was another win for Washington Capitals’ goalie prospect Ilya Samsonov on October 8, 2017, as Metallurg Magnitogorsk beat Admiral Vladivostok 3-1. Today’s win for Metallurg Magnitogorsk was the first win against Admiral in three years.
Magnitka’s superstar, Sergei Mozyakin, opened up the scoring during the first period with a power play goal, with assists from Jan Kovar and Tomas Filippi. At that time, Admiral had two men in the penalty box, with one serving a double minor.
Tomas Filippi followed that goal up with another power play goal a minute later. The score remained at 2-0 through the second period and until just past the midpoint of the third period when Pavel Makhanovsky broke the shutout. Magnitka added an empty net goal when there were only 30 seconds left to go in the game. Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the game 3-1.
Ilya Samsonov faced 32 shots and saved 31 of them. Some of the saves he made were very notable, judging from the play by play log. This is the second start in a row that he has won, although his more recent appearance before this start was a brief appearance in relief. Samsonov has now saved a total of 318 shows out of 342 shots, for a save percentage of .930.
This was Metallurg Magnitogorsk’s fourth win in a row and their third in October, as they are undefeated for the month.
