For the third consecutive year, the Capitals held their annual Rock the Red Carpet before their home opener against the Montreal Canadiens. A couple hundred of fans showed up hours early to get autographs and see their team before the home opener.
As usual, Captain Alex Ovechkin was mobbed by fans. He was greeted with chants of “Ovi, Ovi” as he arrived.
Nathan Walker, making his NHL debut tonight, will become the first Australian-national to play in the NHL. Walker was highly sought after by the media, including a reporter from FoxSports Australia.
T.J. Oshie was the first to arrive and the crowd was primed to give him a huge welcome as he returns to the team with a fresh 8 year deal.
Devante Smith-Pelly and Tyler Graovac won points for their red carpet attire.
Fan favorite Tom Wilson drew huge cheers despite the fact that he will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
Defenseman John Carlson, always dressed in style, signed for fans on the red carpet.
Tonight’s game will be broadcast at 7:00 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
