October is here and the season starts Thursday night in Ottawa. After winning their final preseason game on Sunday in dramatic fashion against the Blues, Barry Trotz and his coaching staff had to decide who was ultimately going to make the team.
As the 5 p.m. deadline on Tuesday came and went, we learned from Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post that defensemen Madison Bowey wasn’t on the team’s roster. In addition, we learned the Capitals were negotiating with Alex Chiasson to sign a deal.

There’s also obviously no huge rush to sign Chiasson, but he appears to be penciled in to play in Wilson’s 3RW spot on Thursday in Ottawa.

Alex Chiasson signed a one-year deal on Wednesday morning. Chandler Stephenson was placed on waivers.
#Caps intend to place center Chandler Stephenson on waivers today; he won’t practice. If he clears (noon tomorrow), he’ll report to Hershey.

CAPITALS 23-MAN ROSTER
Due to a controversial boarding hit during Sunday’s preseason finale at St. Louis, Tom Wilson will begin the season with a four-game suspension.
For what it’s worth (comparison), here are the lineups from opening night of last season, and the Capitals lineup for the final game of the 2016-2017 season.
