Capitals Announce Latest Set of Roster Cuts, Get Closer to Final Roster

After the Capitals’ 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the team’s fourth preseason game last night, more roster cuts were expected to come sometime today. This morning, the Capitals announced their second round of roster cuts, trimming their roster by 17 players.

Among the notable names cut were 2016 first-round draft pick Lucas Johansen, defenseman Connor Hobbs, goaltender Vitek Vanacek, longtime Hershey forward Chris Bourque, among others. Per the Capitals Public Relations, the full list of players includes the above players, as well as Garrett Mitchell, Mason Mitchell, Hubert Labrie, Adam Carlson, Kristofers Bindulis, John Albert, Matias Bau, Wayne Simpson, Tommy Hughes, Dustin Gazley, Tim McGauley, Hampus Gustafsson, and Stephen Collins.

All but Collins were loaned to the Bears for the start of Hershey’s training camp on Monday (September 25). The Capitals’ roster is now down to 36 players, per CSN MidAtlantic’s Tarik El-Bashir.

Among the more notable players (not establsihed roster players) remaining are forwards Liam O’Brien, Anthony Peluso, Tyler Graovac, Nathan Walker, Chandler Stephenson, and Zach Sill, Riley Barber, Alex Chiasson, Devante Smith-Pelly (among otherS), and defensemen Madison Bowey, Christian Djoos, Tyler Lewington, and Jyrki Jokipakka.

  1. It’s interesting that Colby Williams remains but Connor Hobbs was cut. It shows what a season in Hershey can do!
