Capitals to start training camp on Friday, September 15th

The Washington Capitals announced today that training camp will open on Friday, September 15th at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. That will also be the first day of the season that coaches, management, and players are open to the media. 

The Capitals have three practice sessions on the ice that day. Group White will be on the ice starting at 9:30 AM, Group Red at 11 AM, and Group Blue at 12:30 PM. On September 14th, the Capitals will have their physical and off ice testing.

The Capitals will compete in a four team rookie tournament, which will be in Estero, Florida at Germain Arena from September 9-12. They will be facing the prospects of the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the defending Western Conference Champion Nashville Predators. You can watch all of those games on the Monumental Sports Network and listen on Caps Radio 24/7, which can be found on the Caps page of the NHL app.

More information will be released on Tuesday. The rookie tournament schedule is down below.

Friday, Sept. 8
Capitals rookies practice: 11 a.m., Germain Arena
NHL players’ informal skate from 9 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 9
Rookie Game:  Capitals vs. Florida Panthers, 1 p.m., Germain Arena
NHL players’ informal skate from 8:40 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.

Sunday, Sept. 10
Rookie Game:  Capitals vs. Tampa Bay Lightning, 1 p.m., Germain Arena

Monday, Sept. 11
Capitals rookies practice: 11 a.m., Germain Arena
NHL players’ informal skate from 9 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 12
Rookie Game:  Capitals vs. Nashville Predators, 10 a.m., Germain Arena
NHL players’ informal skate from 9 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 13                 Day off

Thursday, Sept. 14
NHL players physicals/testing – No media availability

Friday, Sept. 15
Capitals Media Day, Kettler Capitals Iceplex

The Caps open their preseason on Monday, September 18 at the New Jersey Devils and the regular season at the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, October 5. For the full preseason and regular season schedule, click here.
