Hershey, Pa. – Today, the Hershey Bears announced the signing of defensemen Tommy Hughes to a one-year AHL contract.
The 25-year-old played the last four years with the Hartford Wolf Pack, registering 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) and 143 penalty minutes in 226 games.

The official release from the Bears also mentions that Hughes is a native of London, Ontario, where he played for the hometown OHL London Knights for parts of four seasons before turning professional. He led the club to back-to-back OHL titles in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and struck for 32 points (three goals, 29 assists) in 169 career junior games.
Hughes should provide an extra defensemen in Hershey, who seemed to have a shortage of men on the backend last year. His four years of experience should come in handy, and he should be a reliable man to add into the lineup.
