In an interview with Russia’s Sport-Expres, Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin said that he “has a small chance of participating in the Olympic Games in 2018.”

“As far as participation in the nearest Olympics is concerned, there are no changes,” said Ovechkin . “Let’s hope they let me speak.” The chance is always there.

“We’ve already told everyone about the Olympics, let’s hope that there will always be chances, we’ll see.” He hasn’t spoke with other players about this, “Ovechkin said.

For the past two years, Ovechkin has stated that he will attend the Olympics, regardless. In an interview with rSports in August of 2015, Ovechkin originally stated that he is ready to participate in the 2018 Olympics, even if the NHL bans NHL player participation.

In September of 2016, Ovechkin again reiterated that he was planning to participate in the upcoming games, regardless of the NHL’s decision.

In October of 2016, Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis said that he will back Ovechkin if he wants to play in the Olympics.
