Andre Burakovsky was interviewed by Andreas Kack of the Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet, just hours after signing his new two-year deal with the Washington Capitals. Here is a translation of a portion of the interview.
Were you worried?
– Absolutely not. I have had a good dialogue with the heads all the time. They were quite clear that they wanted to extend with me so I was never worried.
That’s quite a lot of money:
– Absolutely, it is a fairly strong wage growth, I must say. But, I have fought hard over here and I think we met quite well. That was the level I wanted, says Burakovsky.
On Tom Wilson
On twitter, your teammate Tom Wilson wrote: “Congratulations André Burakovsky and do not worry – I’ll still take care of you! But you can definitely offer some dinners now “.
Congrats @andreburakovsky and don’t worry… I’ll still take care of you! Definitely a couple dinners on you though !!
— Tom Wilson (@tom_wilso) July 4, 2017
– Haha, I saw it. Tom sent a sms to me too. He wrote “Oh my God, congratulations mate! Now you invite (me) to dinner “. But I don’t know why he wrote he would “take care of me”. It’s always me who makes sure he gets food in the stomach. He is a year older than me, but it is I who am the father when we live together, chuckling Burakovsky.
“It will be exciting”
The Swedish 22-year-old had a tough start to last season and it was long before he arrived in time to produce. In total, he scored 35 points (12 + 23) in the regular season and 6 (3 + 3) in the finals.
– I look forward to next season. It will be interesting to see where we stand. We have many good players and I think we can go far next season as well, says André Burakovsky.
