As we originally reported back in October of 2015, Adidas was awarded the “official outfitter of the NHL“, which includes providing team jerseys for all NHL teams starting with the 2017-2018 season. Tuesday night the NHL and Adidas revealed the new style of jerseys for all 31 teams, including the Capitals, at a ceremony held at the Intrigue at The Wynn Las Vegas.

The new sweaters feature a flattened or removed collar from previous versions of the Capitals jerseys. It also includes reconfigured blue piping around the neck.

The league and the sportswear company signed a seven-year deal on September 15th, 2015, making Adidas the official outfitter of on-ice uniforms, as well as an official supplier of licensed apparel for the NHL.

As we reported on January 9th of this year, Adidas will be limiting teams to one home uniform and one away uniform, which means the elimination of the third-jerseys for the 2017-2018 season.

The league also leaked the new draft hats for the upcoming 2017 NHL Entry Draft, to be held this weekend in Chicago.

Reebok, the previous supplier, paid $35 Million dollars annually to the NHL to produce their jerseys. Adidas is reported to be paying double that, as per an unnamed league source.

  1. I hate the fact they are getting rid of 3rd jerseys and don’t even understand it at all! Our 3rd jersey is so effing BEAUTIFUL and not to mention everyone would have to buy 2 new jerseys if Adidas made the 3rds! In my opinion the 3rd jerseys are a pretty big deal to fans, a lot of 3rds remind us of the teams original uniforms and bring back that nostalgia I dunno, maybe I’m wrong but I think it’s a bad move.

Too bad they won’t be able to keep the retro jerseys…
