Capitals’ General Manager, Brian MacLellan, spoke with reporters early this afternoon for the first time this offseason. MacLellan spoke about the direction the team is going in and mentioned a little bit about T.J. Oshie and a potential contract.
“I like Oshie. Of the unrestricted free agents, he’s a good fit. It’s going to depend on what the salary cap is and what he’s looking for. There’s nothing specific as far as term and money,” said MacLellan.
MacLellan said they’ve had only general discussions with Oshie. Have not talked numbers yet.

Rumors regarding a new Oshie contract surfaced last week, making it sound as though a deal was “all but done”. If this is the case, it’s clear that MacLellan is not letting it be known.
Although Caps like Oshie and he likes them, it sounds far from certain he’ll be back.

Oshie has stated publicly that he likes it in Washington. “This group of guys, organization, coaches. It’s been a great fit for me. It’s been a great fit for my family. So, I’d like to come back here.”
It does sound like Oshie might be the only UFA that could return to Caps, though.

T.J. Oshie scored a career-high 33 goals this past season and was a big asset to the top line along with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. How much will he cost exactly? Read more here.
