Colorado Eagles Down South Carolina Stingrays 3-2, Take 2-0 Series Lead in Kelly Cup Finals

The South Carolina Stingrays fell to the Colorado Eagles 3-2 in Game 2 of the Kelly Cup Finals Sunday night at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland, Colorado. Game 3 is set for next Sunday, June 4th, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The Eagles converted on 2 of 5 power play opportunities in the game, while the Stingrays power play went 1 for 4 on the night. Stingrays netminder Parker Milner made 26 of 29 saves while Eagles’ goalie Lukas Hefner made 25 of 27 saves.

The Stingrays’ loss gives the Eagles a 2-0 series lead. This is the third time during the postseason that the Stingrays have fallen behind 2-0 in a series.

FIRST PERIOD:
The Stingrays struck first with a goal from Steven McParland at the 4:00 mark of the opening frame. This was McParland’s second goal of the series. Joey Leach and John Parker were credited with the assists.

That would be all the scoring for the first period, as the Rays took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Colorado outshot South Carolina 12-8 for the opening frame.

SECOND PERIOD:
The Eagles would tie it up early in the second period with a power play goal by Matt “The Big” Garbowsky at the 3:34 mark. The Eagles would take the lead less than 2 minutes later on a goal by Sean Zimmerman at the 4:37 mark of the middle frame.

The Stingrays would tie the game late in the second period on a goal by Steve Weinstein with 52 seconds left in the period.

The second period would end with the game tied 2-2. Colorado outshot South Carolina 12-7 for the middle frame, and led 24-15 after two periods of play.

THIRD PERIOD:
The Eagles re-gained the lead midway through the final frame with a power play goal by Shawn St-Amant at the 10:09 mark.

The Eagles would hold on for the 3-2 win to take a 2-0 series lead in the Kelly Cup Finals.
