Backstrom, Kuznetsov and Orlov Arrive in Paris Under Heavy Security

Nicklas Backstrom (Team Sweden), Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov (Team Russia) traveled from Cologne, Germany to Paris, France on Wednesday via high-speed train. The two teams have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2017 IIHF Championships.

This year’s semi-final contests will be played at both sites, with Team Sweden to face Team Switzerland and Team Russia to face Team Czechoslovakia in Paris, France. Team USA will face Team Finland and Team Canada will face Team Germany in the other semi-final matchups in Cologne, Germany. All games will be played on Thursday.

SportBladet reports that both teams traveling to Paris were accompanied by enhanced security and French Police. “The security is great with Tre Kronor going to a country that has suffered immensely from terrorism”. The report continues, “Lots of policemen guarded the team (train) at the station and escorted the players. While on the train, special police made sure that no incident occurred. Seven of them were stationed at the entrance to the Tre Kronor car at the front of the train.
