Paul Carey Will Replace Brett Connolly in Game 2

Paul Carey took line rushes on the 4th line with Daniel Winnik and Jay Beagle at Saturday’s morning skate. He will replace Brett Connolly in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Carey brings better speed and skating ability to a 4th line in need of a spark. The 4th line currently has 0 points in seven playoff games. Carey said after practice that he was notified on Friday night that he would be in the lineup for Game 2.

Karl Alzner skated with the healthy scratches after practice, so it looks like he will not return to the lineup tonight. Trotz said after practice that Alzner is still listed as “day-to-day”.

Brett Connolly’s ice time has been consistently dwindling as of late. Capitals head coach Barry Trotz noted at the start of the series that the Caps could make a change on the 4th line and are even considering skating seven defensemen when Karl Alzner returns.
