Capitals Daily Report: Let’s Try This Again

The Capitals held an optional practice today at Kettler to try to correct some things from Game 1’s 3-2 loss. They’ll get another crack at them tomorrow night at the Phone Booth.

PRACTICE
The goalies came on the ice early along with Paul Carey, Chandler Stephenson, and Taylor Chorney. In all, there were nine skaters and both goalies. The other players who joined were Daniel Winnik, Tom Wilson, Jay Beagle, Andre Burakovsky, Brett Connolly, and Karl Alzner.

In practice, they focused on a lot of skill work such as redirecting pucks in front of the net and 1-on-1 corner battles, according to CSN’s Capitals Insider Tarik El-Bashir.

Beagle was optimistic this morning after a rough loss.

“We woke up. The sun is shining. It’s just one game,” said Beagle.

Karl Alzner’s status hasn’t changed according to head coach Barry Trotz. The Caps Iron man who achieved 500 consecutive games played earlier in the season has now missed five consecutive playoff games with an upper body injury. Trotz would later point to the difference in this year’s club.

“That’s the change in our team. Our team’s not going to back off. We’re not backing off,” said Trotz.

Later in the afternoon, Stephenson was returned to Hershey.
