Stay the Course, Caps Fans

Mark my words—we are going to win the whole damn thing. I know you think that I’m crazy for saying this, and yes, maybe I am a little loco, but we are going to win. Sure, we are down two games to one to a young, fast, and well-coached Leafs team, but we are going to win.

No team has ever gone 16-0 throughout the playoffs and every team is faced with some sort of adversity on their paths to greatness. This is their adversity, down to a team that everyone thought they would steam roll and the time is now to buckle down. We have been taken to OT in three straight games and lost the last two, but we are going to win.

I’m known as an eternal optimist, but I know this for a fact—we are going to win it all. We have played poorly for most of the first three games, falling into a trap that Babcock has set for us, but we are going to win. Our defense has looked sloppy, slow, and hurt, but we are going to win. We haven’t gotten enough net front presence and are taking too many perimeter shots with no one in front, but we are going to win. We have taken too many penalties and haven’t converted on the chances that we’ve had, but we are going to win.

We are going to win because there is no other option. This is it, really, this is it for this group, for this staff, for this fanbase, for us all. We are going to win because we need to win. We need to win to save the team, the fan base, the city, the coaches, the players. We need to win to save Ovi from more and more years of people saying that it is his fault that we can’t win a Cup.

I’m an emotional writer because I show very little emotion otherwise, that’s what years of playing competitive sports and being told “never show your opponent your emotion” will do to you. But, I know that we are going to win the whole thing. My feet are securely planted on this ship and I’m ready to go down with it if that happens, but it won’t, because we are going to win the whole damn thing. Join us on the ship or don’t, but know this—you need to get ready for this rollercoaster ride and all the waves of emotions that will happen.

I don’t know a lot, but I know one thing—We are going to win the whole damn thing.
