The Hershey Bears announced today that Christian Djoos, a second-year defenseman, has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for March.
The defender has been enjoying a terrific second season with the Bears. Currently tied for second among all AHL defensemen with 55 points (12 goals and 43 assists) in 62 games for Hershey, Djoos caught fire in March.
He registered three goals, 13 assists, and was +10. On March 17 against the Hartford Wolf Pack, he scored a pair of goals including the game-winner in overtime and assisted on Hershey’s other two goals. He then recorded three assists over the next two games, but it was teammate Paul Carey who secured Player of the Week honors.
We profiled the Swedish defenseman earlier in the year. That interview can be found here.
Per the release from Hershey, if Djoos is chasing former Hershey defenseman Lawrence Nycholat’s 57 point season in 2005-2006 and if he surpasses 60 points, he would become the first Hershey d-man since Michael Gaul to do so.
