Capitals Re-assign Travis Boyd to Hershey

The Washington Capitals have re-assigned forward Travis Boyd to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. 

Boyd is on the Bears road trip to Hartford, and is expected to participate,in this afternoon’s practice with the team.

The Capitals are likely to make another recall before their two-game road trip to Nashville and New York. The team will depart Washington for Nashville following the game against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Boyd, 23, has registered 43 points (11g, 32a) in 53 games with Hershey this season and leads the team in assists and ranks second in points. In addition, Boyd ranks tied for third in the AHL in assists and tied for 10th in points. The Hopkins, Minn., native represented the Atlantic Division at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic in Allentown, Pa. and recorded three points (2g, 1a). Last season, Boyd ranked second among Bears skaters in assists (32) and third in points (53) and goals (21). He won Hershey’s Kenny Smith Memorial Award for most player of the game nominations and scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Game 7 of the Atlantic Division Finals against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on May 15, 2016. The 5’11”, 191-pound forward has recorded 98 points (33g, 65a) in 131 career AHL games with Hershey. Boyd played at the University of Minnesota for four seasons from 2011-15 and earned 96 points (32g, 64a) in 148 games. He was drafted by the Capitals in the sixth round, 177th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.
