The Washington Capitals and the Caps’ Better Halves are hosting their annual gift basket silent auction on Feb 24. The themed gift baskets will contain some of the players’ favorite things, autographed items and jerseys. All proceeds from the auction benefit Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.
A bit of “Basket Scouting” for those interested in the unique contents for each of the player’s baskets:
Both Nate Schmidt and Tom Wilson have included Harry Potter items and wine (Above). Wilson included a box of Mac and Cheese, while Nate Schmidt included a book on FBI secrets.
Braden Holtby has included a signed hat from the NHL Awards. Justin Williams has included wine, and a foam finger in his basket.
Matt Niskanen passed on the basket to include a Yeti cooler. Nicklas Backstrom included a ton of Swedish goodies, including a Swedish team shirt.

AUCTION DETAILS
The gift baskets will be auctioned through Handbid and on display at the MSE Foundation table located on the main concourse at section 104 of Verizon Center during the Capitals game against the Edmonton Oilers. Handbid is a mobile-based bidding app that fans should download on their iPhone and Android devices if they would like to participate in the auction. Fans should ensure their phones or tablets are well charged for the game and those without smart phones may bid on iPads supplied by the Capitals at the MSE Foundation table while the auction is open. Online bidding will take place at HandBid, will start at noon on Feb. 23 and will conclude when the second intermission ends during the Caps game on Feb. 24.
