The Capitals fell to the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Joe Lewis Arena. The loss dropped the Capitals record to 39-11-7 (85 points). The Capitals are now en route to New York City for their tilt against the Rangers on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is 12:30PM. 

Braden Holtby got the start in goal for the Capitals. Petr Mrazek got the start in net for the Red Wings.

Zach Sanford got the start in place of the injured Andre Burakovsky, who missed his second consecutive game due to a hand injury.

Taylor Chorney and Jakub Vrana were the healthy scratch for the Capitals.

This was the first game back following the Capitals’ bye week.

The second period would end with the Red Wings leading 2-1. The Capitals led in shots on goal 21-15 after two periods of play. Washington outshot Detroit 11-5 for the second period.

THIRD PERIOD
The Capitals would tie it on a goal by Daniel Winnik at the 15:12 mark of the final frame.

The third period would end with the game tied 2-2. The Capitals outshot the Red Wings 11-7 for the final frame, and 32-22 in regulation.

OVERTIME
The overtime period would go scoreless, sending the game to a shootout. The Red Wings would win it in the shootout.
