Welcome to the first edition of Hershey Bears Three Stars of the Week! Each week, we will select three players as our stars of the week and highlight their accomplishments.
Vitek Vanecek – Although fellow teammate and goalie Parker Milner could have shared the honors in Hershey’s sweep of the week, the nod here goes to Vanecek who won both of his starts and wowed the home crowd Sunday with an assist on Chandler Stephenson’s goal.
Friday night in Binghamton, Vanecek stopped 30 of 33 shots from the Senators. He nearly equaled that performance Sunday with 28 saves on 30 shots from St. John’s.
Paul Carey – Carey had a five-point weekend as well with a goal and four assists games Friday and Saturday. Carey had a pair of assists Friday on Galiev’s third period goals. Then Saturday he scored Hershey’s first goal and assisted on Galiev’s and Thomas’s goals in the second period.
Who else but Stan Galiev? Galiev started off the week with a hattrick in Binghamton, scoring Hershey’s final three goals in the 5-3 victory. They were his 9th, 10th, and 11th goals of the season with the first coming late in the second period with the score tied 2-2. The second, which would become the game winner, came early in the third with the insurance goal coming late in the third.
Goal Number 1 – Hershey takes a 3-2 lead in the second period.
Goal Number 2 – Hershey takes a 4-2 lead in the third period.
It’s a Hat trick for Stan! Goal Number 3 gives Hershey a 5-3 lead.
He continued to sizzle Saturday in front of the home crowd Friday at Giant Center, scoring late in the second period to give the Bears a 4-1 lead and then adding an assist on Christian Thomas’s powerplay goal with 38 second remaining in the game.
