After a week full of accomplishments for multiple members of the Capitals, center Nicklas Backstrom has added another one to the list, as he was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week.
In a week in which he recorded his 500th career assist, Backstrom scored three goals and 10 points in FOUR games to lead the NHL in scoring for the week, a week also notable for . He also had multiple points in that span, per the NHL:
“Backstrom registered multiple points in all four games starting with one goal and one assist in a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Jan. 9. On Jan. 11, he recorded one goal and three assists in a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, followed by one goal and one assist in a 6-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 13. Backstrom finished the week by notching two assists in a 5-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 15”.
Before yesterday’s game against the Flyers, the Capitals honored Backstrom with a pre-game ceremony. Being named the first star of the week seems like the perfect award to cap off a phenomenal week for both Backstrom and the Capitals.
