Capitals Daily Report: Caps Gear Up for Rivalry Night Showdown with Pens

The Capitals hit the ice this morning to prepare for their Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins have won five in a row while the Capitals have won six straight. Something’s gotta give. Puck drop is at 8:00 p.m. on NBCSN.

MORNING SKATE:

It’s now official. T.J. Oshie will be in the lineup for tonight’s game. You will see him on the first line tonight with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.

 

The practice lines at this morning’s skate:

Nate Schmidt makes his return as well, as both Paul Carey and Liam O’Brien have been reassigned to Hershey. Schmidt is paired with Brooks Orpik on the third blue line.

Tonight, Alex Ovechkin goes for history. Sitting at 999 points, he would want nothing more than to get his 1,000th career point tonight at home in front of Sidney Crosby and the rival Penguins.

Braden Holtby was the first goalie off the ice, which signifies that he will get the start against Marc Andre Fleury.

MILESTONE WATCH:

  • Alex Ovechkin is one point shy of 1,000 NHL career points.
  • Barry Trotz is one win shy of passing Pat Quinn (684) for 7th all-time in career wins.
  • Barry Trotz is one game shy of passing Pat Quinn (1,400) for eighth place on the all-time NHL games coached list.
