Last night Matt Niskanen took a hit right into the boards late in the first period and exited the game during the Capitals 4-3 overtime win over the Bruins. Niskanen was checked into the boards on a hit from behind by Bruins center Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron was sent to the box for two minutes for boarding.
This morning, Niskanen was evaluated and shortly after that Capitals PR announced that he was listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury and that he will not travel with the team to Buffalo.

There’s no timetable on his return but his absence will be a tough challenge. Niskanen is a big presence on both the power play and the penalty kill and averages the second most ice time on the team, behind John Carlson, at 22:01.
Friday’s game against Buffalo will be the first game missed by Niskanen since signing with Washington.
