Saint Nick!: Nicklas Backstrom Named League’s Third Star for the Week

Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has been named the NHL’s “Third Star” for the week ending Nov. 20, the NHL announced today. 

From Capitals Media Release:

Backstrom led the NHL with eight points (four goals, four assists) in four games to power the Capitals (11-5-2, 24 points) to five out of a possible eight standings points. He scored a goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Nov. 15 before matching his career high with five points (two goals, three assists), including the decisive tally, in a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 16.

Backstrom closed the week with two points (one goal, one assist) against the Blue Jackets on Nov. 20. The Gavle, Sweden, native leads the Capitals with 12 assists and 17 points in 18 games this season.
