Most fans of the Washington Capitals remember Ilya Samsonov as their first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently playing in the KHL for Metallurg Magnitogorsk and is under contract with them through the 2017-2018 season.
He earned his seventh victory of the 2016-2017 season in the game on November 12 when Metallurg played Lada Togliatti. It was a wild, back and forth affair, where one team would score and the other team would tie it up. Just past the mid-point of the game, the score was 3-3.
However, Metallurg pulled ahead during the second period and scored an insurance goal during the third period to win the contest 5-3. Metallurg regained first place in the Eastern Conference because of this win. In this game, Samsonov faced 36 shots and saved 33 of them, for a percentage of .917. This was the first game he had appeared in since October 26 where he was in goal against Metallurg Novokuznetsk which was a 3-2 win for Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
So far for the year, he has played 13 games and has compiled a 7-0 record. He has made 204 saves in 222 opportunities for a save percentage of 91.9% and a Goals Against Average of 2.36.
