After a fairly ‘yawnable’ first 17 minutes of the opening period, there were three goals scored in a 2:03 span late in the period. The goal barrage included Tom Wilson’s first of the season.

Wilson’s tally came with 1:48 left in the first period. The shot from the point was setup by a nice feed from linemate Evgeny Kuznetsov, giving the Capitals a 2-0 lead.

Marcus Johansson would start the scoring, on a tip off a blast from Matt Niskanen at the point.

The Capitals would give up a goal with 5.7 seconds left in the period, to send it to the first intermission, with the Capitals leading 2-1.
