Washington Capitals Daily Report – Thursday (10/20)

The Washington Capitals face the Florida Panthers tonight at BB&T arena. This is the first of three meetings between the teams. Puck-drop is 7:30 PM, and will be carried by CSN. The complete game preview can be found here.

Following tonight’s contest, the Capitals return home for a quick one-game homestand on Saturday when they host the New York Rangers. The Caps will then depart on their annual 10-day tour of the great northwest.

MORNING SKATE
The Caps held their morning skate today at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

 

Evgeny Kuznetsov took time to chat with Mike Vogel following this mornings practice.

 

Starting Lineups:
Braden Holtby will get the start between the pipes for the Capitals this evening. Roberto Luongo will get the start for the Panthers.  Both of tonight’s starting goalies did not play in any of the three games last season. This is the first meeting between the two goalies since their NHL-record 20-round shootout (Dec.16, 2014). The Capitals starting lines for tonight:

NEWS AND NOTES

  • Philipp Grubauer’s shutout against the Colorado Avalanche was the first shutout by a goalie in the NHL this season.
  • The Capitals lead the NHL in shots/game played at a 36.3 average. The Capitals have out-shot their opponents 109 to 70 through the first three games of the season, and have taken 40 or more SOG in two of their first three games.
  • The Capitals have scored the first goal of a game in all three of their games this season.
  • And congratulations to Joel Ward on his 600th game in the NHL.
