The Washington Capitals will pay tribute to Braden Holtby and his Vezina Trophy winning season this Tuesday, when the Capitals host the Colorado Avalanche. Puck-drop is 7:00 PM.
From the Capitals Release:
The Washington Capitals will hold a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, October 18 against Colorado to honor Braden Holtby’s historic 2015-16 season. During the ceremony, Holtby will receive a special gift from the organization.
Join us Tuesday as we recognize Braden Holtby’s tremendous 2015-16 accomplishments including winning the Vezina Trophy and tying the single-season NHL wins mark at 48 wins (tied with Martin Brodeur).
All fans in attendance will receive a Holtbeast fan banner provided by Capital One Bank and be able to applaud and cheer on Braden during a special pregame ceremony.
Last season, Holtby won the Vezina Trophy as the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at this position as voted by the general managers of all NHL clubs. He became the third goaltender in Capitals franchise history to win the Vezina Trophy, joining Jim Carey (1995-96) and Olie Kolzig (1999-00). Holtby, 26, posted a 48-9-7 record this season with three shutouts, a 2.20 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. The 6’2”, 217-pound goaltender earned his 48th win of the season on April 9 at St. Louis, tying Martin Brodeur (48, 2006-07) for first place on the NHL’s single-season wins list. Holtby (66 games played) secured his 48th win of the season in 12 fewer games than Brodeur (78 games played).
