The Washington Capitals made their second round of cuts to the training camp roster on Monday afternoon. The cuts included a few of the top prospects, who were optioned to the Caps AHL affiliate in Hershey, and will participate in the Bears training camp.
Jakub Vrana, Riley Barber, Liam O’Brien, Madison Bowey, Christian Djoos, Darren Dietz, Garrett Mitchell and Vitek Vanecek were all optioned to the Hershey Bears. The second round of cuts included:

The remaining training camp roster, following Monday afternoon’s second round of cuts includes:
Battle for the 14th Forward Sport
Head coach Barry Trotz and GM Brian MacLellan have mentioned on a number of occasions over the summer, that the team is looking to add an additional (14th) forward. With today’s cuts, prospects Zach Sanford, Nathan Walker, Travis Boyd and Chandler Stephenson would appear to remain in the running for the Capitals 14th forward position.
Out of the remaining top four forward prospects, Zach Sanford and Nathan Walker would appear to be at the top of the list. Both Sanford and Walker have impressed the Capitals coaching staff this offseason and during training camp. Zach Sanford and Nathan Walker are both in tonight’s lineup. Coach Trotz spoke about the top prospects during his post-practice media session this morning:
